Create Hotspot On Your Ubuntu 12.04

You need to create infrastructure (Access Point mode) wireless hot-spot rather Ad-hoc hot-spot.In linux(ubuntu) i used ap-hotspot and which works for me(i got connected WP8 and Android 4.4, dont know about iPhones).

Now, if you able to configure successfully and dont get any kind of Unsupported wifi errors(if you get that simply means, your wifi_card doesnt support infrastrucutre Access point wifi_hotspot, so can do nothing on it), then procceed.

Since ap-hotspot is deprecated, it's neither reliable or stable for newer Ubuntu distribution. The author of ap-hotspot recommended create_ap.

you are getting Blank b/c you used the wifi-hostpot as it is. You must use the name of the wifi you used to create at the begining. sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/your wifi name

Hi, i create the connection as you explained in your post, the modify from mode=infrastructure to mode=ap, save everything but now the connection disappear from my list of hidden wireless network!

I could create hotspot but the problem was with security tab. Whenever I tried to select some security I could not save the respective option and it becomes an open network. Please tell me how to add security in another way. I even tried to add that in that configuration file but still in vain.

I could create the hotspot and my android/iphone gets connected successfully but I cannot connect to Internet with this wi-fi connections. I am not able to understand, what am I missing in this setup.

Hy I changed the following command gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/wifi-hotspot, by this: sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Yassin_ubuntu And the file is opened, but it is empty. WHAT IS THE PROBLEME??

To reconnect to your WiFi network after disabling the hotspot click on Connect to a Hidden Network button in the Network Manager Select your WiFi network connection from the Connection drop down list and hit the Connect button and you should be restored to normal.

also, my iphone device can not use the ad-hoc wifi which is set by the normal unity. Sometimes, the iphone device can find the signal, but the wifi ask me for user name instead of only keywords. BTW the /hostapd_1.0-3ubuntu2.1_i386.deb can not be found from your website, is there another source?

The hotspot is created. My phone(Moto G 2nd gen) detects the wifi network. But it keeps disconnecting and connecting repeatedly(in something like 5 seconds). What should I do to get rid of this problem?

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my notebook, and I've got a Motorola Razr which I updated to Android 4.1.2. Before updating, I connected my smartphone to my hotspot wifi very quickly, but after the update it no longer works. Android 4.1.2 can't see the hotspot created by Ubuntu; it sees all other wifi networks and can connect to them, but not mine. What could be wrong?

You can use ap-hotspot from the webupd8 repository to create an infrastracture AP instead of adhoc. I am using this on Ubuntu Precise (12.04), but it is available for Saucy, Raring and Quantal as well.

This tutorial covers getting your ad-hoc, titled: How to set up Ubuntu 12.04 laptop as WiFi hotspot (ad-hoc) to share wired internet. In general you need to setup a WIFI hotspot under "Edit Connections -> Add" similar to the screenshot below:

You can use this method to create a virtual interface, use one interface to connect to a network and use another one to create an ad-hoc network for hotspot. This should be pretty straight-forward (googling, of course), since NetworkManager has (a nice) UI. For example, this should do it.

Before you start to create WiFi Hotspot in Ubuntu 14.04, disable WIFI and plug in a wired Internet connection to your laptop/PC. Please makes sure that the Ubuntu is connected to a wired internet and wireless is disabled.

With your Google Fi phone, you can use the portable Wi-Fi hotspot to share your internet connection with up to 10 devices at a time. For example, if you want to use your laptop at the airport, you can turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect your laptop to the internet.

This wikiHow teaches you how to broadcast your Windows computer's Internet as a wireless hotspot using the Command Prompt application. To do this, you must be using an administrator account on your computer.

In this post I will show how to setup Ubuntu 12.04 as hotspot (ad-hoc, Access Point) to share wired internet with other WIFI enabled devices, e.g. laptops, iPad, iPhone, iTouch, smart-phones. Do not worry, it is quite easy to do the setup step by step by my captured screenshot.

You can turn your Windows 10 or 11 device into a software Wi-Fi router (hotspot/access point) and share the Internet connection using only the built-in tools. This Windows software hotspot can be used to create a simple local wireless network (for example, to share files and printers) and/or to share an Internet connection with multiple wireless devices (computers, laptops, phones, tablets, and other devices). (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle []).push();

In the same window, the list of devices that are currently connected to your WiFi hotspot is displayed. The name and MAC address of the device, as well as the IP address assigned to it, are displayed. Windows Virtual Hotspot allows you to connect up to 8 devices at the same time.

Try to update the driver for your Wi-Fi adapter and/or remove the Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter according to this guide (this virtual adapter is used to create wireless access pint). After that, restart your computer and try to turn on the mobile hotspot again.

Now, if you scan for available Wi-Fi networks on other devices, they will see your wireless hotspot and be able to connect to it with a password (for the convenience of users, you can use PowerShell to generate a QR code for your Wi-Fi network). Devices connected to such a network can share documents and hardware peripherals, but Internet access through such a WiFi hotspot is not yet possible.

If you have previously created a Wi-Fi hotspot on this device, try to clean the Hosted Virtual Adapter settings in the registry. Delete the HostedNetworkSettings DWORD registry parameter under the HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WlanSvc\Parameters\HostedNetworkSettings reg key.

If you have already created your hotspot with the command:netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Hotspot key=ZiZiPassTo run adhoc, just execute the command:netsh wlan start hostednetworkYou can create a runadcoh.bat with the command above file and add it to your Windows 10 Startup folder(Win+R->shell:startup)Or run this command from the Windows task scheduler at the computer boot (At startup trigger).

Hi Vivek, thanks for your tutorial, it works for my setup (ubuntu 10.10 k 2.6.35.28 atheros card driver ath9k) with a little problem: the authentication goes wrong.I configured hostapd without security for testing and daemon says (when I try to connect from my phone)

Thanks to your instructions I managed to do this with two wireless nics.Unfortunately since updating ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 I have really difficulties to start hostapd. The nic not being the access point starts flawless. The other one refuses to start telling:

Missing APN data can also cause your iPhone hotspot to not work. If your carrier has this feature and you know the codes, you can add them yourself by going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Cellular Network or Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Mobile Data Network.

In order to start, you have to create a VM (or install in your native environment), get the OpenJDK source code, install a number of packages, and build the OpenJDK from command line, as it described in Adopt OpenJDK VM Build (Old Build and InfraBuild).

We currently have older systems (18.04) with hotspot's and we will migrate to 22.04.Anything work's fine, expect the hotspot. The Hotspot will be created and is visible in the WLAN-List, but if the security is set to "WPA & WPA2 Personal" we get the error message "Failed to connect to the network".If we change the Security to "WPA3 Personal" we get the error message "Invalid Password", even if the password is correct. As soon we remove the security (change it to "none"), we can connect with out any problems.

So I tried on an upgraded system and on a live session from the release and a default "WPA & WPA2 Personal" created by gnome-control-center or the cmdline example from the description works for me (tested using an android phone and another ubuntu laptop).

My machine can't connect with the ubuntu software, when wpa_supplicant version is 2.10. On the version 2.9 of wpa_supplicant, the machine can connect with that. But, the internet does not work. After the firewall of the ubuntu software is disable, my machine can connect the internet. But the internet is not available if I enable the firewall, again. Even if only the hotspot is handled as an exception in the firewall, the result is the same.

If your carrier supports it, you can use personal hotspot on your iPhone to share your cellular connection with other devices. A lot of us use this to get Macs or SIM-free iPads online when we are working outside an office. The connection will be made available within the available Wi-Fi services to your other devices.

MyPublicWiFi is an easy-to-use software that turns your laptop/tablet/PC into a Wi-Fi wireless access point or Multifunctional Hotspot. Anyone nearby can surf the Internet through your sharing. This is also an ideal solution for setting up a temporary Access Point in a hotel room, meeting room,at home or the like. By enabling user authentication, Customers will be redirected to your login page to authenticate with access password or accept the Terms Of Use before getting the Internet access. The MyPblicWiFi-Firewall can be used to restrict user access to specific servers. You can also prevent the use of certain Internet services (e.g. file sharing programs) or block the use of social media networks (e.g. Facebook). MyPublicWiFi turn your PC into an Adblock Router. Advertising blocker are an effective way to save your internet bandwidth and protect the privacy of your user. The Bandwidth Manager helps you to control download and upload rate for your hotspot clients. MyPublicWiFi allows you to record and track all visited url pages on your virtual WiFi-Hotspot. Mypublicwifi allows you to set up port forwarding, is available in 12 languages, can be used without a Internet connection and supports the "Hosted Network" and "WiFi Direct for Windows 10".
